Meet Lashawn McKenzie, MSW

SpeakWell Collective exists because of a simple belief: everyone deserves a space where they feel seen and understood. SpeakWell means learning to express yourself with clarity, confidence, and authenticity—finding your voice and using it in a way that supports your healing and growth. I’m Lashawn McKenzie, therapist, coach, and founder of SpeakWell Collective. Long before this practice existed, people would come to me when they were at a crossroads, unsure of what to do next or simply needing someone to listen. Over time, I built SpeakWell Collective around that calling.

Much of my passion comes from my own seasons of transition, from moments of change and rebuilding to times when I had to find my footing. Those experiences taught me that honest conversation is powerful and transformative, and that reclaiming your voice is how you find your way back to yourself. Seeing how deeply people changed when they felt truly understood has confirmed that this work was more than something I was good at; it was something I was meant to do.

I hold a master’s degree in social work with specialized training in mental health, trauma-informed care, and coaching methodologies, along with certifications in Sport Social Work, Grief Counseling, and End of Life Care. I continue to build on my work through integrative wellness approaches and mind-body practices. My approach draws from cognitive behavioral techniques, strengths-based and solution-focused work, motivational interviewing, mindfulness, and narrative exploration—always tailored to you. I specialize in anxiety, life transitions, identity and self-worth, grief, burnout, and relationship challenges.

I’m especially drawn to working with professionals, caregivers, students, and those who are used to showing up for everyone else, often at the expense of themselves.  You can expect me to show up present, honest, and supportive. I’ll meet you where you are and help you take intentional steps forward in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Clients often tell me they feel truly understood, and that our work helps them reconnect with parts of themselves they thought they had lost. My goal for every person I work with is that they leave with a deeper sense of trust in themselves. When people commit to healing, it can open the door to clarity, self-trust, healthier relationships, and a life that feels more aligned with who they are. That’s the direction we’ll move in together.

When I’m not in session, you’ll find me enjoying good food, curating playlists, and finding any excuse to travel.
